EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE VIA ZOOM. Please register to receive link.

Media industries both occupy and generate spaces and places, through the formation of global production networks, via media engagements with the local, and by way of the increasing dominance of streaming media, all while at times actively obscuring these aspects of the media they produce and distribute.

CPOI Reads invites you to an online webinar, ‘Space and Place in Global Media Industries’ to explore the new anthology Locating Media Industries: Spaces, Places, Platforms (Routledge, 2026). Join the collection’s editor and chapter authors Contributors Professor Paul McDonald (King’s College London), Dr Luisela Alvaray (De Paul University) and Professor Timothy Havens (University of Iowa). In conversation with Dr Anne O’ Brien, Associate Professor in Media Studies at Maynooth University, the authors will reflect on the collection, their chapters and discuss palatial and spatial dynamics of media industries, the location of soft power in ‘Hollywood East’ and producing for global platforms in Latin America.

This event for the CPOI READS series for Cultural Policy Observatory Ireland, made possible through the support of UCD’s School of Art History and Cultural Policy, is part of the Screening Mobility project, supported by the UK-Ireland Collaboration in the Creative Economy – Research Networking Award, through the Arts and Humanities Research Council and Research Ireland. Screening Mobility explores migration and mobility across the screen industries in Ireland and the UK.
